It’s boom time!
By The Stu Crew
It’s boom time for this Victorian historical mining town, located at 9,600 feet above sea level. Breckenridge Ski Area has the world’s highest chairlift newly installed in 2005. The Imperial Express chairlift takes you up to 12,840 feet where the skiing is above tree line and the views are in all directions from both sides of the Ten Mile Range. There are 772 acres of bowl skiing. The new Skyway Skiway allows you to ski back down to the parking lot in town rather than riding the free shuttle bus. The new Gondola installed in 2006 takes you up to Peak 8 from town making it a convenient and quick way to go skiing or boarding. Breckenridge is a four-mountain ski area; you’ll hear the locals say they skied Peak 7, 8, 9 or 10. All levels of skiing terrain are available including 25 acres of Terrain Parks. Currently Breckenridge Ski Area has 2 high-speed 6-passenger Super Chairs, 7 high-speed quad lifts, 1 triple lift, 6 double lifts, 1 8-passenger gondola, 4 surface lifts, and 9 carpet lifts. Snow is never a problem with 565 acres of snow making to get the season rolling on top of the average 280 inches a year. With all the improvements to the Ski Area and the Town this resort is up and coming as a ski vacation destination or second home location or a primary home spot with an excellent school system. The town is quaint with many shops, restaurants and bars making it an après-ski dream.
In the summer the ski area turns into a family fun spot with the Alpine slide or riding the chair lift up with your bike for a downhill run or hiking the many trails or trying out the many fun activities at the Peak 8 Base. Golfing and fishing are popular activities too.
This mountain town is expanding and improving each year making it an up and coming resort with a huge future.
